Unobtrusive, Space Saving and Effective

DentoShield ™ is a 2' x 2' stand-alone air purifier, it doesn't require integration with the existing HVAC system which reduces time and cost to install. The system works continuously to destroy airborne pathogens, especially important in a dental practice where aerosolized droplets are spread from dental work. With space at a premium in dental practices, the DentoShield is recessed mounted inside a drop ceiling and uses a medical-grade (MERV14) filter to catch large particulates before passing the air into an irradiation chamber which uses powerful ultraviolet light (UV) lamps to destroy bacteria, viruses, mold and other pathogens. All which helps keep a safe environment for dentist, staff and their patients.

Dental Healthcare Workers and Patients at High Risk for Exposure to Airborne Pathogens.

Infection control standards were originally developed for dentistry in response to the HIV epidemic. Many respiratory infections have been linked to the oral microbiota and dental procedures that use high and low speed handpieces and hand instruments can create bioaerosols and spatter. Ultrasonic scalers and high-speed handpieces produce more airborne contamination than any other instrument in dentistry. Emerging evidence regarding SARS-CoV-2 and previous investigations studying other coronaviruses, spread is thought to occur mostly from person-to-person via respiratory droplets among close contacts. Based on this data and the ever changing variants of SARS-Cov-2 it even more important to implement technologies which can help mitigate the spread of airborne infectious diseases.

How Air Purification Systems can reduce exposure and transmission of highly infectious diseases in dental offices.

Dental unit waterlines are one piece of equipment to have been shown to harbor microbial pathogens. The specific bacteria likely to cause diseases include Legionella, Pseudomonas and the aerosolized bacteria from waterlines can cause serious infections and even death. Aerosol control in confined, poorly ventilated spaces where the air exchange with filtration cannot be successfully applied presents a challenge. The challenge is to decrease the indoor concentration of bioaerosols with effective technologies to reduce aerosol infections. Strong evidence demonstrates ventilation in a practice setting can impact the spread of airborne infections. Using a stand-alone UVGI air purifier which generates light in the germicidal wavelength at the source will help reduce aerosol concentrations and also inactivate viable bioaerosols.

Patients and staff are regularly exposed to tens of thousands of aerosols generated during procedures which exposures them to the potential for respiratory infections. Patients and practitioners are regularly exposed to tens of thousands of aerosols generated during procedures Due to the risk of infectious transmission posed by dental aerosols, transmission-based precautions should be a key strategy in every dental practice. Air cleaning systems which use a combination of MERV or HEPA filtration along with ultraviolet germicidal irradiation units are ideally designed to assist in purifying air in and outside of the dental patient procedure rooms.

The DentoShield uses a medical-grade filter and high spectral emission lamps which produce photons that expose microorganisms to a short light wavelength (254 nm) that is lethal to a variety of microorganisms, thus helping to reduce the spread of airborne pathogens.
